OpenAI and Infosys struck a strategic partnership on Tuesday, linking OpenAI's portfolio of artificial‑intelligence tools—including the Codex coding assistant—to Infosys' Topaz AI platform. The integration will enable the Indian services firm to offer its clients AI‑enhanced solutions for software engineering, legacy‑system modernization and DevOps automation.

Infosys said the combined offering is designed to help enterprises move beyond pilot projects and adopt AI at scale. By embedding OpenAI's models into Topaz, the company plans to streamline code generation, accelerate workflow automation and support the deployment of AI systems across its global client base, which spans more than 60 countries.

Why the deal matters for the IT services sector

The partnership arrives at a challenging moment for Indian IT services providers. Clients are tightening budgets, and the rapid rise of generative AI threatens to automate portions of traditional outsourcing work. Infosys' shares have fallen more than 22% this year amid a broader sell‑off driven by weak forecasts and investor concerns about AI's impact on the outsourcing model.

By aligning with OpenAI, Infosys hopes to offset these pressures. The company reported that AI‑related services generated roughly ₹25 billion (about $267 million) in the December quarter, accounting for 5.5% of its total revenue. The new collaboration is expected to expand that share as clients adopt AI‑driven development tools.

OpenAI, for its part, gains a distribution channel into large enterprises through Infosys' extensive delivery network. The deal follows similar alliances the AI firm has forged with other global consulting and services firms, such as Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, PwC and Tata Consultancy Services. OpenAI has also partnered with HCLTech and announced Codex Labs, an initiative that pairs its engineers with clients to accelerate AI tool deployment.

Neither company disclosed financial terms of the agreement. Both firms emphasized that the partnership is focused on helping enterprises transition from experimentation to production‑grade AI deployments, a shift that could reshape how software is built and maintained worldwide.
