On Wednesday, Synthesia unveiled Roleplay Sessions, an AI‑driven training product that moves beyond its core video‑creation business. The British startup’s new platform lets employees practice scenarios such as sales pitches, performance reviews and customer complaints with an AI avatar that talks back, challenges the user and grades the interaction against a predefined rubric.

CEO and co‑founder Victor Riparbelli framed the launch as a response to growing pressure on enterprises to demonstrate concrete returns on AI spend. He cited a meta‑analysis of learning research that shows most corporate training stops short of changing behavior. "Video performs way better than text or a document," Riparbelli said, "but we learn best by actually practicing something rather than just reading it." Roleplay Sessions adds that practice layer, combining Synthesia’s proprietary avatar and voice technology with OpenAI’s reasoning engine, then layering rubrics, performance data and analytics on top.

The product is the first offering under a broader "Sessions" platform that Synthesia plans to extend to job interviews, candidate screening and other formats. For now, the focus is on soft‑skill development for sales teams and leadership. Early customers include one of the top three companies by market cap in Europe, a Fortune 100 firm ranked in the top five, and one of the world’s largest recruitment companies. Those clients have begun rolling out the tool at scale, using the analytics to map talent performance across their organizations.

Customers can either build their own Roleplay programs using existing training documents or tap Synthesia’s consulting services for custom solutions. The platform captures granular data on each interaction, allowing managers to see where individuals excel or need improvement. Riparbelli believes that level of insight positions Synthesia less as an AI avatar vendor and more as a performance‑management platform with a video front end.

While the service is currently aimed at enterprise customers, Synthesia plans to broaden its reach to small businesses, prosumers and educational institutions within months, pending lower inference costs. The company expects the shift toward measurable outcomes to drive the next phase of enterprise AI adoption, where firms care less about flashy demos and more about proven impact on the bottom line.
