How much do Claude Max and Ultra cost now?
Anthropic has renamed its two Claude Max plans and dropped the five-hour usage limit on the more expensive one. The company now calls its $100-a-month plan Max and its $200-a-month plan Ultra. Prices stay the same, the company said on X on Friday.
What changed for Claude Ultra accounts?
Do new Claude accounts still face a five-hour limit?
Verified Ultra accounts no longer face a limit that resets every five hours. Most existing subscribers received the change Friday. Newer accounts keep a temporary five-hour limit until Anthropic verifies them, a step the company says helps prevent fraud and abuse. Those users will get an email when the limit is lifted. Weekly limits are unchanged on both plans.
“If you’re a subscriber, there’s nothing you need to do,” said Claude, Anthropic’s official account on X.
Anthropic’s pricing page now describes Max as five times Pro usage, both every five hours and every week. Max includes $100 a month in API credits. Ultra offers ten times Pro usage every week, with no five-hour limit for verified accounts. It includes $200 a month in API credits, up from $100 on Max.
Both plans include Fable, which the pricing page describes as Anthropic’s top model, for up to half of the weekly limit. In Europe, the two plans cost €90 and €180 a month.
The name change carries a usage shift. The old Max 20x plan was tied to 20 times Pro usage. The pricing page now lists Ultra at ten times Pro usage a week, but Anthropic’s post on X did not mention the change.
The renaming follows a run of changes to Claude’s subscription plans. In June, a lawsuit claimed Anthropic oversold the usage on both Max plans. In May, Anthropic doubled the five-hour limits for Claude Code, citing new computing capacity from SpaceX. In April, the company blocked OpenClaw and other third-party agent tools from using Claude subscriptions.
