Google is offering up to 200 European researchers direct access to some of its most advanced science AI models, along with $3 million in computing credits. The offer comes from Google DeepMind, the company's AI lab, and Google Cloud, its cloud division.
The lineup includes AlphaFold 3, which predicts the structure of proteins and other molecules, and WeatherNext, which forecasts the weather. Researchers will also get AlphaGenome, a model that studies DNA, and AlphaEvolve, an AI agent that designs algorithms. AlphaEarth Foundations, which maps the planet using satellite data, rounds out the list.
DeepMind released AlphaFold 3 in May 2024 together with Isomorphic Labs, its sister company focused on drug discovery. Since November 2024, academics have been able to download its code and model weights for non-commercial work.
The offer runs through RAISE, the European Union's program to help scientists use AI. Google said it wants to help close the gap in computing power that European researchers sometimes face. In a blog post, Maureen Costello, a Google Cloud vice president, wrote that the tools will help teams solve hard problems more quickly, from forecasting extreme weather to mapping molecules.
Google did not say how researchers will be selected, when access will begin, or how the credits will be divided among them.
The European Commission launched RAISE, short for Resource for AI Science in Europe, in November 2025 as a virtual institute. Its pilot phase has €107 million in EU funding, most of it aimed at training and attracting AI researchers. The initiative also seeks to secure computing time for scientists at the EU's planned AI gigafactories. In February 2025, the EU set up a €20 billion fund to build up to five of these large AI computing centers.
The announcement comes after upheaval on DeepMind's science team. In July, the company broke up the team behind AlphaFold, which won a Nobel Prize in 2024, and moved most of its members to other work. A month earlier, Nobel laureate John Jumper, who led AlphaFold's development, said he was leaving DeepMind.
