Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets users start software projects by deploying multiple AI agents into parallel workspaces. Meta confirmed the deal to TechCrunch but declined to comment further or provide additional details.
The news first surfaced in a report from Axios, and Conductor later shared the announcement on its blog. Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz wrote on Wednesday that “Conductor is joining Meta.” He added that the company has “some big, crazy plans for the next interface” and promised “something new” for customers by “early next year.”
Holtz also said he is looking forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company’s Superintelligence Labs. On X, he praised the group. “They’ve been on an absolute tear, and I’m convinced MSL has the highest talent density of all the labs,” he wrote.
What Does Conductor Do?
Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its core product only last summer. Its agentic teams can be deployed in the cloud, locally or through a user’s phone. The tools are designed to help software engineers work on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project in concert. The agents on the platform are not developed in-house. They come from major labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI.
Will Conductor Users Lose Service?
Current users will not lose service right away. Holtz said Conductor’s core features will continue to work as they have until early next year. The exception is the cloud service, which will shut down on November 20. After that date, the company will begin deleting user cloud data.
How Does the Deal Fit Meta's AI Push?
The acquisition comes as Meta works to close ground in AI. The company had lagged behind in AI services, but it has spent the last several months trying to catch up. In August, it launched Muse Code, its own coding agent. Its recently launched Muse agents are also seeing significant adoption, and Meta recently reported that the service has surpassed 10 million users.
Meta has made a number of other AI-related acquisitions over the past year. One of them is Moltbook, the viral agent platform that made headlines.
