1Password has launched 1Password for Agents, a platform that lets personal AI agents sign in to accounts on a person’s behalf without ever seeing the password. The Toronto-based company said Thursday that agents from Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceXSI are among the first to plug in.

AI agents now book holidays, pay recurring bills and prepare expense reports. Those tasks often require access to the accounts behind them, and many people simply paste a password into the chat. That leaves a copy somewhere they no longer control, 1Password said.

How do AI agents sign in without seeing passwords?

The new system works in a few steps. When an agent reaches a login page, it proves its identity to 1Password with its own digital key. The person then sees which login the agent wants and why, and approves or rejects the request on their own device. If they approve, 1Password types the details straight into the login form instead of handing them to the agent. The password stays in the person’s vault.

The approval step is designed to work like two-factor authentication, according to coverage of the launch, because the request must be confirmed on a device the user controls. Once signed in, the agent continues its task without ever having seen the password.

“Agents are starting to do real work on our behalf. The old model where you hand over a credential and hope for the best doesn’t work,” said Aashish Tripathi, 1Password’s chief product officer, in a press statement. “An agent should be able to do the job it’s been asked to do without getting permanent access to everything behind the account.”

Muse, the personal assistant from Meta Superintelligence Labs, is one of the launch partners. It asks 1Password for logins as it works through a task. Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, said he has used 1Password since 2007 and is “so happy to have it integrated directly into Muse.”

Which AI agents are launch partners for 1Password for Agents?

Other agents on the list include OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work and dots, Anthropic’s Claude Duet, SpaceXSI’s Grok Bot and Town’s Townie assistant. Sign-ins for Claude Duet will follow soon, the company said.

Browserbase, Browser Use, Perplexity, Ramp and five other companies have also signed up, and more are expected. 1Password did not release pricing or launch dates for individual partners.

The platform builds on Secure Agentic Autofill, an early-access feature 1Password released with Browserbase in October 2025. The launch comes as security researchers focus on the risks of autonomous tools. One researcher recently described how a hacker used AI agents to break into more than 100 websites.

1Password said its business vault protects more than 1.6 billion credentials and secrets for over 200,000 businesses.
