Evos, a company that builds autonomous operators for the physical economy, has come out of stealth with $9 million in pre-seed funding. Uncork Capital and Field Ventures co-led the round. Crosslink Capital, Utopia Capital Management, Sandwith Ventures and several angel investors also took part.

The company's operators are designed to learn a job from a business's most experienced people and then do that work themselves. They operate inside the software systems a company already uses, rather than requiring a new stack built from scratch.

Evos is aiming at a segment that has been largely left out of the software boom. Small and mid-sized businesses make up most of the physical economy, according to the company. It cites figures showing 99.3% of U.S. motor carriers run fewer than 100 trucks, and 93% of U.S. manufacturers have fewer than 100 employees.

Many of those firms run on what their veterans know, and little of it is written down. Evos founder and CEO Urav Shah said the knowledge is often the most valuable asset a business has, and it is slipping away as longtime workers retire.

"The most capable system in many of these businesses is the person who has been there 20 years, and what they know has never been written down," Shah said. "An Evos operator learns the job from these people, improves on it, and proves it can match them before it takes on any work by itself."

Evos describes its product as an Agentic Operations Platform. Companies use it to build operators that, in the company's words, think, decide and act the way their best people do. The operators learn from behavior rather than text, studying the decisions a team makes and the patterns behind them. A function becomes fully autonomous only after the operator's decisions consistently match those of the team.

The company says the platform is fully self-serve. Work that would typically take a consultant or implementation partner nine to 18 months, Evos says, an operator can take on in 24 hours, from discovery to deployment. The company calls its approach the Trifecta: one hour with a company's experts, a working operator the next day and measurable results within a month.

How much autonomy a business grants is up to the business. Options range from a person signing off on every step to the operator running entirely on its own.

Evos also draws a distinction between its operators and typical AI tools. Most of those require constant prompting, with someone asking, reviewing and acting on each answer. An Evos operator is assigned a function instead, so the team manages outcomes rather than inputs.

The company points to one freight brokerage that uses an Evos operator to audit every LTL carrier invoice against its transportation management system. In its first two months, the operator made nearly 3,500 audit decisions at 97% accuracy. In the last five weeks alone, it closed out more than $600,000 of invoice value.

Mike Chalfant, president of MyFreightWorld, said the tool had improved both accuracy and efficiency. "Evos has helped us revolutionize our billing process with zero upfront investment, and also at an impressively fast speed measured in days and weeks," Chalfant said. "Adding Evos to the stack has been a terrific thing for our Company, and we're excited to continue to grow our partnership."

Richard Kerby, a partner at Field Ventures, said software sold to industrial businesses has long helped companies organize and track work but has stopped short of doing it. "Evos changes that," Kerby said. He added that the firm believes Evos can become the operating layer for the physical economy.

Tripp Jones, a general partner at Uncork Capital, said teams are putting the operators to work on core parts of their business quickly, without a long technology rollout. "Urav is one of the most impressive founders I've worked with, and we're thrilled to back him," Jones said.

Evos plans to formally launch its platform, called Workhorse, in the coming weeks. The company describes it as the workforce for physical industries. Evos was founded in 2026.
