When will Nothing's screen-free AI device launch?
Nothing is preparing to launch its first AI device, and it won’t have a screen. CEO Carl Pei said in a post on X that the company will release the device in December, a little over a year after he announced plans for “AI-native” devices and an AI operating system.
What has Nothing revealed about its AI device?
Pei revealed little about the product itself. He wrote that it is “a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product.” He also said the device “has no new screen, and it couldn’t have been an app.”
Pei shared an image with the post that reads “NOTHING(R)” in the top left corner, above an ambiguous black rounded shape. The image didn’t show the device.
Rumors about Nothing’s AI plans have circulated for months. Last month, a rumor claimed the company plans to launch two pairs of AI smart glasses, including one without cameras. An earlier rumor said Nothing is “repositioning itself as an AI-first company” with a shift toward AI accessories.
Are other companies already selling screen-free AI gadgets?
Nothing won’t be the first to offer a screen-free AI gadget. Humane’s AI Pin, the Friend and even AI stuffed animals have already entered the market. OpenAI is also reportedly developing an AI smart speaker with designer Jony Ive.
Pei pointed to the broader race in his post. “The whole industry is hunting for its iPhone moment: the pendant, the pin, the glasses, the companion, some magical consumer device that makes AI part of everyone’s life,” he wrote. He added, “Looking for the iPhone of AI today is a dead end.”
