The upgrade expands on the previous version, which only handled upper‑body motions, and adds dexterous five‑finger hand control, multi‑robot coordination and on‑device operation. Demonstrations with Apptronik’s Apollo 2 robot show the system walking, crouching, picking up a watering can and retrieving items from shelves. DeepMind also rolled out Gemini Robotics ER 2, a safer, longer‑range embodied‑reasoning model that better detects nearby humans and can run locally without internet connectivity.
