Poetic, an artificial‑intelligence startup that operated in stealth until now, unveiled a $50 million financing round that lifts its valuation to $500 million. The round was led by OpenAI, with participation from Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and Kleiner Perkins, among others.

Markie Wagner, the company’s founder and a former machine‑learning engineer at Google and Waymo, said Poetic’s mission is simple: turn every business process into software. The platform ingests a firm’s standard operating procedures, training videos and expert feedback, then runs those processes end‑to‑end while automatically repairing itself when underlying software changes. To keep costs down at scale, Poetic built a proprietary programming language that directs its AI agents.

Early adopters already include consumer‑finance platform SoFi, insurance giant AIG and challenger bank Chime. Poetic reports striking results: 100 percent accuracy on automated fraud decisions, more than 99 percent quality on insurance broker quotes for AIG, and an estimated $200 million a year saved on fraud detection for a Fortune 500 financial firm.

Leigh Marie Braswell, a partner at Kleiner Perkins, praised the technology, saying it delivers “accuracy that exceeds what human teams can deliver.” The company’s claims, however, come with limited technical disclosure. Poetic says client data never leaves the customer’s environment, and the system complies with SOC 2 Type II, PCI, HIPAA and GDPR standards, but it has not revealed how the AI makes its decisions—a gap that regulators and auditors may scrutinize.

OpenAI’s involvement signals a broader strategy. The research lab has been building an investment arm that backs application‑layer startups leveraging its models, from agent‑swarm builders like Isara to a $10 billion private‑equity vehicle. Each investment deepens a network of companies that both extend and depend on OpenAI’s technology.

Poetic is entering a crowded enterprise‑workflow automation market, where firms are already racing to replace legacy rule‑based systems with generative and agentic AI. The real test will be whether the promised “100 percent accuracy” holds up under regulatory review, audit trails and the messy edge cases that define underwriting and compliance.

For now, the sizable funding and OpenAI’s endorsement suggest investors believe Poetic can deliver on its ambitious promise.
