The VergeOn August 2, the European Union activated key transparency provisions of its AI Act, requiring providers and deployers of artificial‑intelligence systems to clearly label AI‑generated content and disclose when users are interacting with a machine. The measures apply machine‑readable watermarks to synthetic audio, video, image and text, and impose fines of up to €15 million or 3 percent of global turnover for non‑compliance. Companies such as Meta and SpaceXAI, classified as both providers and deployers, must meet the new obligations within a four‑month grace period for existing models.
