OpenAI adopts new metadata and watermark system to flag AI‑generated images

OpenAI announced on Tuesday that it will embed a clear provenance signal in the metadata of every image it creates and will partner with Google to add an invisible SynthID watermark. The two layers—C2PA metadata and SynthID—are designed to make it easier for users and platforms to verify whether a picture was produced by an AI model.
